You will be responsible for leading:

(i) reaction optimisation, and

(ii) setting up regimes for analysis and quality assurance of cellulose-based particles, suspensions, and powders produced in our facility. You will be focused on the scaling-up and production of cellulose-based materials for use in coatings, paints, pharmaceuticals, and foods. You will work closely with other members in the Materials and Process Chemistry Team to plan and execute design of experiments, develop pilot production projects and design commercial-scale plans in coordination with external experts to execute the process development across different production scales. You will report to Seprify’s Chief Technology Officer.

● Conduct small and large-scale (organic) chemical reactions and production processes,

● Be conversant in organic, specifically polymer, chemistry and have the knowledge to conduct polymerisation reactions at lab scale,

● Work diligently when handling acids, bases, solvents at high concentrations, and conducting

reactions at small and large scales,

● Be conversant in various analytical tools, for instance: particle size measurement, FTIR, NMR, XRD, ICP:OES, TGA, DSC,

● Experience with biobased sugars and cellulose feedstocks is a plus,

● Write Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) for new reactions and establish quality assurance and control protocols,

● Coordinate your tasks with clear objectives and milestones following a carefully planned timeline in consultation with your supervisor,

What you need to be successful:

● A graduate university degree (MSc/MPhil, PhD/DSc) in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical or Reaction Engineering

● At least 2 years experience in a relevant chemical lab or pilot environment,

● Deep knowledge or experience in at least one of the following fields: Organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, reaction kinetics analysis and optimisation,

● Rigorous attention to detail in experimental execution with an innovative mindset and passion for developing industrially scalable approaches,

● Ability to clearly document and execute complex experiments,

● Ability and experience to work under pressure to meet deadlines,

● A team player, independent, self-motivated, curious, resilient, adaptable, and able to handle the fast pace of a Start-up while being focused on assigned tasks,

● A positive attitude and openness to learn and engage in constructive discussions.

What’s in it for you:

● Hands-on chemical processing and execution experience from process development to commercialisation in an award-winning Swiss Start-up company,

● A major project with responsibility in chemical process design, implementation and execution,

● Extending your applied science skills to project management,

● Working on an impact driven chemical production strategy,

● A topic which receives strong attention in society and economy,
